Welcome to Green-Guard We all know about protecting our homes from the environment, but the environment also needs to be protected from our homes.
v
To help the environment we need to reduce both
The carbon footprint of our homes and
The pollution produced by our homes
The carbon footprint of your home is the amount of carbon, in fact carbon dioxide, released into the atmosphere in maintaining your home and is usually given in terms of tonnes of CO2 per year. It is calculated from the fuel, electricity, gas, oil, etc, used to keep your home comfortable. It can be reduced by reducing consumption, turning equipment and lights off, and turning temperatures down, which will make your home less comfortable, —or by making the fuel conversion more effective.
The main sources of pollution from our homes is heat pollution—unused heat leaking from the home, air pollution—fumes from boilers and burners, and water pollution—soaps, detergents and other chemicals.
But few of us can afford the major changes that would reduce the impact of our homes on the environment. Things like solar panels, wind turbines, triple glazing, heat pumps, biomass convertors, etc, etc, cost so much that they are not projects for this year, but ‘next year, when we can afford it’.
This Year, Next Year, Sometime, Never
But modern technology has given us a much cheaper option
On this site we will show you Energyflow, a cost-effective way to start protecting the environment from your home and saving money.
